Mechanical seal is a shaft sealing method commonly used in air compressors and other pumps and rotary compressors. It is mainly composed of two parts: a moving ring installed on a shaft or a sleeve and a static ring installed on a sealed end cover. The end face of the contact between the moving ring and the static ring is called a friction pair, and the space closed by the rotor shaft, mechanical seal, end cover, bearing seat and other parts is called a sealing cavity.

The sealing principle of the mechanical seal is that when the air compressor is running, oil is injected into the seal cavity through the pressure, and the sealing oil that enters the friction pair forms an oil film on the surface of the friction pair under the action of oil pressure, spring force and high speed. Prevent the working material (gas, lubricating, etc.) in the machine cavity from leaking out through the shaft.

For the principle of the mechanical seal, the pair of friction pairs between the moving ring and the static ring forming the oil film is the core key. This pair of friction pairs has very strict accuracy requirements and is used after precision grinding. Its installation is also very important. It must be ensured that the friction pair can closely fit when static, otherwise it is difficult to form an effective oil film when the machine is running. The mechanical seal with only one pair of friction pairs is called a single-end mechanical seal, and the mechanical seal with two pairs of friction pairs is called a double-end mechanical seal.

The working nature of the air compressor determines the precision of its structure and the high quality of related parts, and the seal is an important structural part that cannot be ignored. The tightness determines the degree of air leakage loss of the equipment.
